  2. Can one or two drops per week of topical iodine(Lugol’s), along with high dose magnesium(1000-1500 mg), vitamins A, D, E, K2 and zinc, significantly improve thyroid function? Thank you.

    1. I think you can take iodine, I’m not sure of the dosage, if you have hypothyroidism. I don’t think you’re supposed to take it if you have hashimotos.

      1. Why not take iodine with hashimotos? What happens/causes?

        1. So is this also true of someone who has no thyroid?

        2. Read the book “Iodine, Why You Need It and Why You Can’t Live Without It.” by David Bernstein. Iodine is a necessary nutrient regardless of a thyroid problem.

        3. It’s complicated, but basically, if you have an autoimmune problem, taking in excess iodine will be like throwing petrol on flames.

          Everyone needs a little iodine, but it has a narrow therapeutic window, that is, the difference between a helpful amount and a toxic amount, is small.
