Hi Tammy
I just moved to Knoxville this summer. I noticed you have an endocrinologist you like. Would it be possible to get her information? I have been dealing with thyroid issue for over 30 years. I had half of it removed 17 years ago. I have always been in the correct range with 50mcg synthroid. Before and after surgery. I ask for more tests to check levels and most recent doc says he wouldn’t know how to read and insurance won’t pay so I am stuck. Recently got him to switch me from levothyroxine still not much better. I have no energy or drive. Sorry I have gone on and on but I am so over all of this. Thanks for listening.

In reply to <a href="https://hypothyroidmom.com/how-to-lose-weight-when-you-are-hypothyroid/#comment-35505">Andrea</a>.

Andrea. I did the radioactive therapy over 20 years ago. Overall, I have been healthy since then and have been able to do everything I wanted to do. I am not happy about my weight, BUT, it is a small price to pay for feeling well and able to do all I wanted to do.
What I DIDN’T appreciate was people telling me how good I look when I dropped so much weight (hyperthyroid from Graves disease when I was most unhealthy) and NO comments now that I am healthy but have gained weight post radioactive iodine therapy. It was a hard lesson for me to see how messed up our society is when it comes to weight and women. At age 70 I advocate for function over form. I love that my mobility, energy and function is good, even if my form (plump!) is not what society accepts. One of my teachers if Andrea Waechter who has an excellent talk about body acceptance.
Anyone with low thyroid or wt gain post radioactive iodine should study how our perceptions of our worth are SO affected by society’s strong pressure that thin =good. Plump=bad. Come on thyroid community…celebrate the small victories.
